The areas being asked to evacuate due to Aransas Pass ‘Myrtle’ fire

ARANSAS PASS, Texas — The brush fire in Aransas Pass that has prompted evacuations has grown to 300 acres and is at 0% containment, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

Authorities in Aransas Pass are asking for residents in the following areas to evacuate due to the fire:

  • Ireland on both sides between 8th and 13th
  • Gettaway RV Park
  • Gaslight village
  • Aransas Bay RV Park

The civic center at 700 West Wheeler Avenue will be open for those who need somewhere to shelter.

3NEWS Reporter Bill Churchwell is at the scene and said the fire is burning dangerously close to homes in the area.

The animal shelter has been evacuated, the Aransas Pass Police Department said on social media.

The fire is burning mostly brush and began around the Lamont St. and Maddox Ave. area on Wednesday afternoon, Aransas Pass Police Chief Eric Blanchard said in a Facebook live video.

Authorities are urging for those in the projected path of the fire, which is moving west, to evacuate as soon as possible.

Around 2 p.m., the fire was about 20 acres and still growing, Blanchard said. The fire is moving west toward Bypass 35.

Several fire agencies from around the area are responding to the fire. The Corpus Christi Fire Department has their AMBUS, a special unit that can transport or care for up to 24 patients at once, at the scene.

Air support planes have been seen seen flying in the area.
